UKAS Certification

At Ashford Instrumentation we often get asked to calibrate instruments to UKAS. This document has been produced to help clarify the calibration services we can offer when faced with this request.

The calibration facilities at Ashford Instrumentation have not been independently assessed UKAS so we are therefore unable to provide a Calibration Certificate carrying the UKAS Calibration logo.

Our Master Deadweight Tester is however directly traceable to a UKAS Accredited Laboratory (UKAS Lab 0221 – Certificate Number 0221) and this is stated on the Calibration Certificates we produce in-house.

All of our Calibration Equipment is fully traceable to National Standards and we are more than happy to provide copies of any documentation as required. We are an ISO9001:2000 Accredited Company which is assessed annually by a UKAS Certified Body (SGS) and our ISO 9001:2000 Certificate does carry the UKAS Quality Management Mark (Certificate Number GB05/65753). We are allowed to show the UKAS Management System mark along side the SGS logo on all our letter heads and marketing material. Our In-House Calibration Facility forms an integral part of our ISO 9001:2000 Quality Manual and is incorporated into our “Company Operating Instructions Manual”, all of which is available for inspection if required.

As part of our Integrated Management System, our Calibration Workshop and the procedures undertaken are regularly audited as part of our own Internal Audit Program and are part of the program that is open to inspection during our annual ISO:9001 inspection. The vast majority of the calibration work we undertake is classed for general industrial usage. It is our opinion that the facilities and processes we offer and operate are adequately covered in respect to quality and traceability under the current Management Quality Systems operated by the company. This is particularly applicable to pressure gauges and mechanical thermometers which typically have an accuracy class of 1% Full Scale Deflection (or +/- 1C in the case of the thermometers). In view of the above, it is not our stated intention to seek assessment by UKAS in the immediate future.

On the very occasional instances where our customers may require a Calibration Certificate bearing the UKAS mark or logo, we use an appropriate laboratory depending on the nature of the instrument to be calibrated.
